Paws to Celebrate Online Auction – Link

Ok! Here’s the link to the Paws to Celebrate Online Auction. We hope that you will find something you like. Even though we had to cancel the in-person event, this auction will help make up some of the funds we would have raised for our sweet animals.
It is easy to bid and we have some really great items. Thanks to all who helped plan, donate, organize and sponsor. The auction will run until next Saturday the 13th at 9pm.

Paws to Celebrate- Online Auction June 6-13!

Due to COVID- 19, our in-person event had to be cancelled. In an effort to raise even a portion of the money from the event, we have decided to hold an online auction. The auction will be held from June 6th-13th. It is free to sign up and bid, so you only pay for things you win. You will be charged if items require shipping. We will post the link when the auction starts. Once the auction has begun, it will even notify you via text that your item has been bid on by someone else. The items will all have photos and descriptions with prices and bid amounts. If you want to donate an item, please let us know. We could still use a few things.

We are very excited and hope that many of you will appreciate this format. As always, we have great items and you’ll be able to bid on them from the comfort of your home. While things are very different and hard right now, knowing that so many still want to help the APL and our animals, is heartwarming. We are still rescuing animals. The work does not stop and neither does the need for funding.

Please check back on June 6th for the link to the auction. Also if you had already registered for Paws to Celebrate, we can use your registration as a donation, use it to make your reservation for next year or otherwise. We tried to reach everyone, but if we didn’t please let us know.

COVID-19- from our Executive Director

Dear Portage APL Supporters,

Portage APL is currently closed to the public and volunteers, due the the safety order from the Governor. Our top priority in an emergency is to care for animals. Slowing the amount of traffic in and out of our shelter keeps our staff safe and in turn, allows us to keep fulfilling our mission. We will still be saving animals that are sick, injured, abandoned or abused. We will still care for the animals that are in our shelter, listen to phone messages and check email. Our important work doesn’t stop, we just have to reduce the risk.

A huge heartfelt thanks to all those who came in to adopt and foster our animals so that they did not have to stay in the shelter during this time. It was an effort like I have never seen before. In the end, we were left with only a couple dogs. All the cats were adopted or placed in foster care. Since then, some remaining dogs have been placed in foster care and others are being cared for by staff.

We ask that while you are sheltering at home, you remember us. Kitten season is coming and when it does, we will need help. Regardless of what is happening in the outside world, animals in need will be a priority. Please remember that we are still here, working for animals in our community. If you can donate, foster, or otherwise, we will need all the help you’ve got to get us through this.

Paws to Celebrate has been rescheduled for June 6th, but it is unlikely that we will be able to gather in that way. We are exploring an online auction so that people can still participate and we can still raise much-needed funds. This is going to be hard. This is also temporary. If this crisis has shown us anything, it’s that we have amazing supporters who will get us through anything!!!! I will try to keep posting updates as they are needed.

My deepest thanks,

Chalan Lowry, Executive Director

Pictures with the Easter Bunny and Easter Egg Hunt

It is with sadness but with the complete understanding that public gatherings should be limited in light of the public health situation, we will be canceling our Easter Bunny event on March 21, 2020. It will not be rescheduled.

Public health is and should be a concern to all of us.

We will look forward to hosting this event next year for our wonderful community!
