Portage APL Hiring Shelter Manager

Portage Animal Protective League seeks a leader to fill a full time salaried Shelter Manager position. The Shelter Manager is responsible for managing and supervising the daily operation of the shelter and shelter staff. Monitors the general health of the shelter animals and ensures proper medical care. Supervises incoming animals and adoptions; and ensures that the public receives accurate information and friendly service. Maintains numerous records, renews yearly licenses and tracks inventory. The ideal candidate should have a background in operations (preferably in animal sheltering), animal care (medical and behavioral), and management of staff and volunteers, as well as customer service. Minimum 5 years supervisory experience. Works with the Executive Director to develop and meet overall organizational and budget goals. Excellent communication skills should include motivating staff and ability to mediate and resolve conflicts. Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and orally with demonstrated administrative skills as well as experience with budget management. Previous animal shelter experience is desirable. The successful candidate will lead a staff of about 10 and oversee the care of up to 25 dogs and 80 cats. You must include a resume with cover letter. No phone calls please.
